Am I Eligible?

Women’s Housing Ltd provides housing for women-headed households, as in families or households where the lead renter is a woman. There are two exceptions:

Our Rooming House program is open to women and men aged 55 years and over.

Where management of a property is transferred to WHL from another agency and the current tenant is a male-headed household, that property will convert to a women-headed household at its first vacancy.

All applicants must have a valid application with the Victorian Housing Register (VHR).

You can find information on how to apply here: Victorian Housing Register | Housing.vic.gov.au

Your application must include personal preferences and requirements such as bedroom size, preferred location/area and any specialisations like disability modifications. WHL can only allocate properties to applicants whose VHR application aligns with the property’s characteristics.

You will be joining an established WHL community. Your personal circumstances and your suitability for the community will be taken into consideration.

Additional weight will be given to applications from:

• Women experiencing or at risk of family violence

• Older women

• First Nations women

Consideration will also be given to existing links the applicant has with the local community (for example, GP/Medical Practitioners, schools). If no links exist, we would require you to connect with local services to assist your transition to long-term housing.

If you are still not sure whether you are eligible for housing with Women’s Housing Ltd, please contact our Allocations Team by email: rental.management@womenshousing.com.au

How to Apply

Once you are approved on the Victorian Housing Register you can be considered for housing vacancies as they arise.

Women’s Housing Ltd regularly checks the VHR when vacancies arise as the first port of call.

If you would like to be considered for a particular vacancy, you can make a request yourself or via a support worker. This can be done by completing a Housing Referral Form and emailing it to the Allocations Team by email: rental.management@womenshousing.com.au

Be sure to specifically reference the property/properties you would like to be considered for.

We publish a weekly email for support services with information about upcoming and current vacancies. If you are a support agency and would like to receive these updates, please notify the Allocations Team via the email above.

Next steps

If your application aligns with the vacancy, you will be contacted to arrange a time and date for an interview.

If an offer of housing is made to you following your interview, a date and time will be set to sign the paperwork and hand over the keys to the property.
