[/et_pb_text][/et_pb_column][/et_pb_row][/et_pb_section]Judy Line, CEO of Women’s Housing Ltd, today announced a new project to house women and children at Gronn Place, West Brunswick. “Women's Housing Ltd has worked closely with the Department of Health and Human Services and AV Jennings to bring this project to life, and we are delighted to be part of this exciting housing development. The old run-down walk-ups at Gronn Place will be replaced by new energy efficient homes that are not only better to live in but more affordable for our tenants. We see Gronn Place as a great example of social housing growth in Victoria,” said Line. Women’s Housing Limited will have responsibility for the management of rental agreements and maintenance of 111 new public housing units. In addition to the management of the units, Women’s Housing Ltd will also purchase another eight units to be constructed by AV Jennings within the precinct. Judy Line, The Hon. Richard Wynne, Minister for Planning and Peter Summers, CEO, AV Jennings The project will play a vital role in meeting the pressing need for affordable housing in Melbourne, particularly for older single women and women and children who have been made homeless because of family violence. All properties will be offered to people on the Victorian Housing Register for social housing. As a registered Victorian Housing Association, Women's Housing Ltd has extensive experience in managing a diverse range of social housing across Melbourne and has an excellent reputation for property and place management. Women’s Housing Limited looks forward to taking a leading long-term role in the overall management of the precinct, to ensure that this project further enriches the neighbourhood, as well as delivering much needed long-term housing for vulnerable women. On the 8 August 2019, Lindy Parker, Operations Manager received an award on behalf of Women’s Housing Ltd for our outstanding commitment to empowering women in the community. The award was from the Centennial Zonta Community and was presented to Lindy by the Major of the City of Yarra, Cr Danae Bosler. Women's Housing Ltd are proud of the work we do advocating for women's rights but it is always nice to be acknowledged!
On 30 July 2019 Women’s Housing Ltd’s WAG committee in conjunction with Beyond Blue and Richmond Community Learning Centre hosted the fourth in a series of ongoing events designed to offer some entertainment, engagement and useful information to our Women’s Housing Ltd Community. Megan, a guest speaker from Beyond Blue, shared her personal struggles with depression and anxiety. She spoke about the hardships and negative impacts that mental health can have on an individual and the support services Beyond Blue provide. The group reflected and discussed their own struggles. Amongst the inspirational stories and discussions, there was also a lovely afternoon tea where everyone was able to eat and get to know one another on a more personal level.
On 25 June 2019 Women’s Housing Ltd’s WAG committee in conjunction with Good Shepherd Microfinance and Richmond Community Learning Centre hosted the third in a series of ongoing events designed to offer some entertainment, engagement and useful information to our Women’s Housing Ltd Community. Tye and Marina from Good Shepherd Microfinance provided participants with some useful tips on how to manage their finances, where to access free and confidential financial counselling, information about no interest loans and where to go if they wished to obtain further information. Jeanette Large, WPI, Lindy Parker, Women’s Housing Ltd and Susan Mathewson, attended the 2019 Australian Housing Institute Professional Excellence in Housing Awards Night. Women’s Housing Ltd were a nominee for the Leading Community Engagement Practice Award. Women’s Housing Ltd nominated the “Money for Jam” Project for this award. The “Money for Jam” project supports women over 50 to establish their own micro businesses. Project partners include Per Capita, Fitted for Work, En Masse and the Brotherhood of St Laurence. En Masse worked with Per Capita and Women's Housing Ltd to develop an App to assist women hone their business skills and provide tips to build their resilience. All the women that participated in the project were supported with mentors who were co-opted from the corporate sector.
